Murder and Child Endangerment Charges Filed Against Tavion Tapscott

The Fresno County District Attorney’s Office has filed charges against Tavion Keyon Tapscott (21, of Fresno) for the murder of Breaja Barbara Jones (21, of Clovis) on October 19, 2024. Tapscott and Jones were previously in a dating relationship and have a child in common. It is alleged that on October 19, 2024, Tavion went over to Breaja’s home to collect his belongings. When an argument ensued, Tapscott shot Jones one time resulting in her death.

At the time of the alleged incident, Tapscott was on formal probation for a domestic violence conviction from an April 2024 incident that also involved Ms. Jones.

The Felony Complaint filed in the Superior Court alleges that Tavion Tapscott committed:

  • One (1) Count of MURDER [Penal Code § 187];
  • One (1) Enhancement of PERSONAL AND INTENTIONAL DISCHARGE OF A FIREARM CAUSING GREAT BODILY INJURY OR DEATH [Penal Code §12022.53(d)];
  • One (1) Count of CHILD ABUSE [Penal Code §273a(a)]

Additionally, Tapscott is charged with having a prior strike conviction from 2019. If convicted of all charges and allegations, Tapscott is facing a maximum of 87 to life in state prison. Tapscott turned himself in to the Clovis Police Department on October 19, 2024. Tapscott is currently in custody at the Fresno County Jail and is scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, in Department 30 of the Fresno Superior Court.
